In essence, this agreement binds the two parties in the establishment and implementation of exchange programmes for the training of Namibian Vocational Education and Training (VET) trainers and trainees at various institutions in Spain, and in particular the Basque Country. Such training programmes are to include aspects of both pedagogical and technical upskilling training, with a special emphasis on renewable energy. Other areas of cooperation provided for under the agreement we are to enter into today, include the following:

a) Leadership and management training for managers, principals and leaders of Vocational Education and Training institutions in Namibia;
b)Technical support and training in the fields of Aquaponics by way of partnerships between TKNIKA and Vocational Education and Training institutions in Namibia;
c)Technical support in the establishment of a network for Vocational Education and Training institutions; and

Acting CEO, Jerry Beukes said the agreement is aligned with Namibia’s high priority training priorities as identified in the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP4) and the training priorities identified by the NTA’s own Industry Skills Committees.

Namibian trainers and trainees are to be hosted at the Vocational Education and Training International Basque Campus (VETIBAC), which is in charge of the coordination of 46 Vocational Education and Training Providers from the Basque Country and offers institutions, governments and training institutions from different countries an opportunity to train teachers, students, school executives and business employees. VETIBAC offers opportunities for training in different areas of vocational training, using state-of-the-art equipment, trained professionals and advanced methodological approaches. Training courses are offered in the Spanish, English and French languages, in some specific areas.

On his part Dr Iñaki Mujika – Executive Director of Tknika highlighted the importance for both parties to give effect to the agreement and to ensure that it contributes to the further strengthening and development of the VET sector in both countries.
