The Namibia Training Authority (NTA) team this week participated in a SADC Qualifications Framework (SADCQF) Validation Workshop, hosted by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) in Windhoek from 10 to 12 February 2026.
The workshop brought together technical experts and representatives from national qualifications authorities, quality assurance agencies from across the Southern African region to validate the revised SADCQF. Originally adopted in 2011, the framework is being modernised to better respond to emerging labour market demands shaped by digitalisation, artificial intelligence, micro-credentials, lifelong learning and the transition toward a green economy.
The revision aligns with the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030 and the Labour Migration Action Plan (2020–2025), reinforcing regional mobility, improved qualification recognition and enhanced international comparability. The updated policy framework further aims to strengthen the 16 SADCQF Quality Assurance Guidelines and streamline the SADC Qualifications online portal to improve efficiency, transparency and access across member states.
On the sidelines of the workshop, NTA CEO Mr. Erick Fundula Nenghwanya met with Mr. Soobeeraj Parmessa, Acting Director: E-Education & Technology Education Directorate at the Ministry of Education and Human Resources of the Republic of Mauritius. Their discussion centred on advancing collaboration in digital transformation, technology-enabled education, and strengthening innovation within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems.
The meeting also reflected a longstanding professional connection, as the two leaders were university colleagues many years ago while studying in Shanghai, China, highlighting how global academic networks continue to foster meaningful regional partnerships.
Through its participation, NTA reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration, strengthening quality assurance frameworks and ensuring that Namibia’s TVET system remains aligned with evolving regional and global skills priorities.
