A delegation from the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) led by General Manager: TVET Regulation, Mr. Tobias Nambala, on behalf of the NEV TVET Hub comprising Nakayale, Eenhana and Valombola Vocational Training Centres, has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Metro Namibia.

The MOU marks a significant milestone in strengthening collaboration between the TVET sector and industry, particularly in the Wholesale and Retail occupational areas (Levels 2–5). It formalises cooperation in the placement of trainees for Work Integrated Learning (WIL), industrial attachment opportunities, graduate programmes, and training-of-trainers exposure.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at Metro Head Office in Windhoek on 20 February 2026, Mr. Bryan Davis, Managing Director of Metro Namibia, underscored the importance of industry involvement in skills development: “At Metro, we believe that retail excellence begins with strong foundational skills. This partnership with the Namibia Training Authority allows us to actively contribute to shaping the next generation of wholesale and retail professionals. By opening our stores as real-world learning environments, we are investing not only in young people, but in the future competitiveness of Namibia’s retail sector.”

Through this agreement, Metro Namibia will provide structured workplace-based learning opportunities, assign supervisors, evaluate trainee performance, and support skills transfer aligned to industry standards. The partnership also enables the use of Metro Namibia’s facilities, tools, and equipment to enhance practical training and assessment for trainees and trainers within the NEV TVET Hub.

In turn, the NEV TVET Hub will ensure quality training delivery, monitoring of trainees, academic support, and alignment of curricula to industry needs, effectively bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.

Also addressing the significance of the partnership, Mr. Nambala, highlighted the broader impact of such collaborations: “This MOU represents a practical expression of industry-led training. By aligning our vocational programmes with Metro Namibia’s operational environment, we are ensuring that trainees graduate with relevant, hands-on experience that meets labour market demands. Partnerships of this nature are essential to strengthening the credibility, quality, and impact of TVET in Namibia. We commend Metro Namibia for taking this leadership step and urge other corporates to follow this example by partnering with TVET institutions to build a skilled and future-ready workforce.”

The MOU will remain in effect for an initial period of three years, reinforcing a long-term commitment to sustainable skills development.
