A visit undertaken to Egypt to support that country in the further refinement of its national arrangements for the organisation of examinations
and assessments has been described as a success. Manager: Assessment and Certification, Nicolette Kolomoni says members of the NTA delegation – which included Standards, Assessment and Certification Council Chairperson, Cliff Olivier and Centre Manager: Okakarara VTC, Moses Tjirare – excelled in engaging the Egyptian peers about Namibia’s assessment system and arrangements.

“It was an excellent collaboration platform. The Egyptians were excellent hosts and our joint scenario planning sessions often went late into the
evenings. Nonetheless, we were able to cover the entire assessment spectrum, sharing our best practice in terms of framework conditions,
responsibilities and processes”, she explained. “We made a good impression on our Egyptian counterparts. They have commended us for the impact we’ve been able to make in establishing a national assessment and certification system which is robust and in tune with local industry requirements and labour market developments. In fact, they now want to learn more from us and our system and plan to visit Namibia soon. We look forward to host them and intensify our collaboration”, Kolomoni shared.

The participation of the NTA delegation was initiated at the request of Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education by ICON INSTITUT GmbH consultant, Mr. Oliver Spätgens, who from 2020 to 2021, served as a consultant at GIZ Namibia and its local Promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ProTVET) Project.During this tenure, Mr. Spätgens became familiar with Namibia’s TVET
assessment system.
