In an effort to garner the buy-in of industry stakeholders, the Namibia Training Authority, through its ten Industry Skills Committees (ISCs), is to embark on a series of countrywide industry fora to engage stakeholders in the validation of skills priorities captured in the Skills Development Plan for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Sector II (2021-25).
Manager: Research and Planning, Indongo Indongo says the objective of the meetings is to engage industry stakeholders and solicit their inputs on the skills needs within their respective sectors. “The meetings are an important component of our ongoing technical and vocational skills market research strategy through which we strive to acquire skills intelligence from the commercial and societal landscape to direct our national skills planning strategies”, Indongo explained.
“The resulting intelligence can be used to develop interventions that will address skills shortages e.g., developing new qualifications and innovative training delivery methods, capacitating training provider and stimulating the delivery of more relevant courses”, he added.
Amongst others, the meetings will consider the labour market outlook, funding opportunities, training modalities and skills priorities. “These meetings are not the first of their kind with the last series conducted circa 2017. Our approach this time is going to be slightly different. We want to engage in a conducive environment with a wide range of stakeholders, especially those embracing new technologies in an interactive, participatory and productive manner”, Indongo highlighted.
The first meetings are scheduled to take place next week at Keetmanshoop on 9 March 2021 and Otjiwarongo on 12 March, respectively; and concludes with a last meeting in the capital on 30 March 2021.
