His Excellency Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, President of the Republic of Namibia, has inaugurated the Khorixas Vocational Training Centre (KHVTC), in the Kunene Region, describing the public training facility as a demonstration of the Namibian Government’s ongoing commitment to empower the youth through practical, industry-aligned training.
In his keynote address, Dr. Mbumba emphasized the Government’s resolve – through the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation and the Namibia Training Authority – to broaden access to technical and vocational training services across the nation.
“This commitment is embodied in the Technical, Vocational Education and Training Transformation and Expansion Strategy (TVET-TES), a comprehensive plan designed to ensure that every Namibian has access to quality TVET services that equip them with the skills needed in today’s job market”, the Head of State emphasized.
The President further highlighted the importance of transforming the youth from job seekers to job creators, a key objective in Namibia’s Vision 2030, which aspires to turn the nation into a knowledge-based economy. “We envision a future where every Namibian has access to quality TVET that empowers them to realize their full potential. The Khorixas Vocational Training Centre is a vital component of this vision, offering programmes that foster innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth,” added Dr. Mbumba.
Dr. Mbumba also urged the members of the Kunene community to embrace the opportunities provided by the Khorixas Vocational Training Centre, emphasizing that the facility should not be deemed as just a place of learning, but as a cornerstone for the community’s development and future prosperity.
On his part, Kunene Governor, Honourable Marius Sheya commended the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation and the Namibia Training Authority for the exemplary work and commitment to establish the facility. “It has been an arduous journey, but we persevered in our shared endeavour to make this a reality for the people of Khorixas and the entire Kunene Region”, the Governor shared.
The Khorixas VTC offers National Vocational Certificates in Bricklaying and Plastering; Joinery and Cabinetmaking; Plumbing and Pipefitting; and Airconditioning and Refrigeration.
About one-thousand-200 people attended the inauguration ceremony.
