Industry stakeholders linked to the occupational domains of ‘Tourist Guiding’ are invited to submit expressions of interest for the review of unit standards and qualifications, registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

According to the NTA’s TVET Standards Manager, Amon Haufiku, stakeholder inputs and the participation of industry and other stakeholders are crucial in the development process to ensure the ongoing relevance of the developed materials.

“It is of utmost importance to constantly liaise with industry and other stakeholders and foster their participation in these development processes. We need to ensure high quality training programmes which reflect the requirements of the world of work of today, and the future”, he explained.

Haufiku also underlined the fact that high quality ‘Tourist Guiding’ training played a major role in preparing trainees to gain professional and practical skills required by the tourism industry. “Given that the tourism industry is a labour-intensive sector, industry-relevant theoretical and practical training is necessary for students to find the opportunity to apply what they have learned into practice and to develop personal skills and abilities. It is therefore of utmost importance that the national qualifications we develop align accordingly and keep track of changing expectations”, he stressed.

It is against this background, that the NTA invites persons with experience in ‘Tourist Guiding’ to serve as Technical Working Group (TWG)/Subject Matter Expert members, and to review the existing Tourist Guiding Unit Standards and Qualifications; Levels 3 and 4, currently registered on the NQF.

Haufiku encourages interested persons meeting the following criteria to submit a comprehensive CV and credentials: minimum NQF Level 6 Tourism Qualification; minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Professional Tourist Guide; teaching/Training experience in Tourism; and excellent verbal and written communication skills

Interested individuals meeting these requirements can submit their applications and supporting documents via email before or on the 30th of May 2021, to lakooko@nta.com.na
