Zambezi Vocational Training Centre (ZVTC has) inaugurated a fully-equipped hotel school training wing and accommodation facility at its Katima Mulilo campus.

Richard Kambinda, ZVTC Centre Manager described the facility, which was constructed by artisan trainees and graduates under the supervision of seasoned project staff, as a great milestone.

“This initiative not only brought about significant cost saving, buts it tested our ability to manage such projects effectively. We simply couldn’t compromise on quality. Indeed, this initiative is a response to the ongoing national and strategic macro-economic endeavour to create employment opportunities for our people, and to support our development and growth as a country, in a sustainable manner”, he explained.

On his part, outgoing NTA CEO, Jerry Beukes said responding to skills shortages, demonstrating innovative ways of delivering technical and vocational skills and expertise, and investing in leading-edge skills development, will continue to guide the NTA’s priority into the future.

”Some might deem this initiative insignificant, but it is part of a much bigger strategy to expand and transform our country’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. It remains critical that the momentum and commitment towards successfully transforming the provision of TVET in Namibia is maintained.”

The ZVTC hotel training facility is now the biggest of its kind in the Zambezi region. It is also the biggest such facility at all the public Vocational Training Centres under the Namibia Training Authority umbrella. Cost-wise, contributions from the NTA of N$2,000,000.00 and N$1,500,000.00 from the centre’s own sources, supported construction. The majority of the trainees and artisans who participated in the facility’s construction also participated in the construction of the centre’s Agriculture Campus, inaugurated, last year.
